Falls Prevention

Falls are a common problem in older people. They can result in fractures and other injuries which may require hospitalisation. Even if a fall hasn't resulted in an injury it can lead to a loss of confidence and a withdrawal from participation in social activities.

Lots of things can influence a person's risk of a fall, including

  • Balance impairment

  • Loss of flexibility / joint range of motion

  • Impaired vision

  • Reduced muscle strength

  • Side effects to some medications

  • Reduced mobility, eg reliance on walking aids

  • Environmental factors such as tripping hazards

Your risk of falls can be greatly reduced by addressing these factors. Our physios will be able to assess your risk factors and provide interventions to make you less likely to suffer a fall. This can have the added benefits of improving your mobility, confidence and social participation.
